RUN THE JEWELS
With Flatbush Zombies
Already announced for Falls Festival, rap duo RUN THE JEWELS will play a headline show at the Big Top in January. Embarking on their first Australian shows since the highly successful 2014 tour, the boys will be supported by Brooklyn hip-hop trio, FLATBUSH ZOMBIES.
The hip-hop super duo consists of two of the biggest heavy weights in rap; legendary producer and emcee, EL-P and the phenomenal Atlanta born lyricist, Killer Mike. The two met in 2011 when EL-P was producing Killer Mike’s solo record. The pair hit it off and one year later the 2013 debut album Run The Jewels was done and dusted. The record received an outpouring of critical acclaim.
The success of Run The Jewels is by no means lightening in a bottle. The pair have a combined discography of more than 20 acclaimed albums. EL-P is among the most respected producers in the industry while Killer Mike, an esteemed conscious voice in hip-hop, made his debut via fellow Atlanta duo, OutKast. 2014 saw the release of their sophomore album Run The Jewels 2 which once again sent critics into a spin, praising the release for its booming production and abrasive, dexterous story-telling.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Run The Jewels really hit their stride, producing their most focused and fine-tuned album to date, Run The Jewels 3. The album quickly cracked the ARIA Top 40 taking out the #36 spot. Pitchfork described the record as “an outpouring of rage and defiance that is never overcome by the moment and never loses sight of the objectives.”
From the energy of the beat to the speed and dynamic delivery of the emcees, this is not a show you want to miss.
